PKO aims to use environment-friendly materials and processes in all their building projects and wanted to minimise the carbon footprint of the new building development in Joensuu, Finland.
As a part of the efforts to control the carbon emissikons of the project, PKO chose to use pavements that have been carbonated using the Carbonaide CO₂ curing system. The solution allowed a decrease in the amount of cement in the concrete mix and, at the same time, carbon storage by mineralising carbon dioxide into the products, cutting in half the carbon footprint of the pavements in the development.
