Helsinki City sport halls (Helsingin Liikuntahallit Oy) and the construction company VRJ worked together with Carbonaide and Rakennusbetoni ja Elementti Oy to use carbonated wall elements in a new ice sports hall.
The challenge
Helsinki City sport halls (Helsingin Liikuntahallit Oy) wanted to explore new building materials and build a new low-carbon ice training center in Kivikko in Helsinki, Finland.
The solution
VRJ Group decided to use insulated wall blocks, which have been manufactured with the Carbonaide CO₂ curing technology. The construction was started in the summer of 2024 and was completed in 2025. A total of 10 tons of CO₂ was mineralised in the walls.
