Grand Opening of the New Full-Scale Carbonaide CO₂ Concrete Factory

Carbonaide CO2 curing system in Joensuu, Finland

On March 6th, partners, customers, and industry experts gathered to celebrate the launch of the first full‑scale implementation of our carbon dioxide curing solutions in commercial production.

The opening of a new CO2 concrete factory in Joensuu is a major achievement for us at Carbonaide and for the concrete industry. The new facility demonstrates that our technology is economically viable and ready to operate at industrial scale. It also shows how concrete manufacturers can utilize and store carbon dioxide while producing durable, low carbon concrete with an optimized carbon footprint.

In the video below, you can get a glimpse of the spirit in the opening ceremony and party. You can also listen to our customers explain why they think this is an important milestone for the concrete industry and the climate.

A Showcase of Finnish High Tech Expertise

During the opening ceremony, the keynote address was delivered by Finland’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Sakari Puisto. He emphasized the increasing expectations for low‑carbon building materials that will be guiding the development of the construction sector.

Sakari Puisto, Minister of Economic Affairs: “Lakan Betoni’s investment in new technology sets an important example. It demonstrates a willingness to renew operations and take actions towards long‑term competitiveness. The significance of the investment extends beyond a single company.”

According to Minister Puisto, the new production line serves as a showcase for Finnish high‑technology capabilities and strengthens Finland’s position among countries seeking fast and scalable ways to reduce emissions from the construction sector.

“Being able to present solutions in a functioning factory in an industrial setting increases credibility in the market much more than just demos and pilot projects,” the Minister said.

A Scalable, Proven Technology Now in Daily Use

The Joensuu factory is the first site where Carbonaide’s complete CO₂ curing system, CO₂ flow management, and software platform operate together as a one‑stop solution. The plant integrates the mineralization process directly into everyday concrete production.

For customers, the commissioning of the Joensuu facility provides a real‑world reference environment where the entire system from CO₂ partner network to carbon credit management is running at full industrial scale. If you are interested in a visit to the factory, let us know!

The Main Benefits: Cheaper, Faster, Stronger and Greener Concrete

The Carbonaide solution enables concrete manufacturers to utilize carbon dioxide and permanently store carbon as carbonates, achieving immediate emission reductions while improving mechanical properties and increasing production capacity.

Carbon dioxide curing strengthens concrete through controlled CO₂ mineralization, reduces the need for cement, lowers greenhouse gas emissions, and allows producers to store carbon dioxide permanently in the built environment.

With a scalable solution that fits seamlessly into existing production lines, we at Carbonaide help concrete manufacturers solve hard problems and accelerate decarbonisation across the industry.

We invite you to joint he party!
