Accelerating concrete curing with Carbonaide

The Carbonaide CO2 curing system makes concrete production significantly faster by shortening the curing time.

CO2 curing accelerates the strength development of concrete by two different methods.

The first method affects the very first hours of concrete strength development whereas the second method becomes prevailing in later hours. Technically, CO2 is a combination of seed accelerators and salt-based accelerators.

Seeding with Carbonates

During the first stage of strength development, seeding, carbon dioxide reacts with calcium forming ultrafine calcium carbonate. Ultrafine calcium carbonate acts as nucleation and offers growth sites for carbonates and hydrates. As nucleation and the following growth can be limiting reaction rate during the first hours of cement hydration, adding CO2 in the process helps in making curing faster.

The dissolution rate of binders becomes the reaction rate limiting factor when excess amounts of nucleation and growth sites are present. Due to the acidic nature of CO2, it increases the dissolution of cement, accelerating the hydration similarly to calcium-based salts.

The short version is that we make concrete and concrete production cheaper, faster, stronger and greener.
